Spain: Madrid, Seville and Granada

Added byAliceMopingo

From the modern, royal energy of the capital to the narrow streets and spectacular palaces of Andalusia, discover Spain in 9 days. Between gastronomy, architecture, and urban strolls, visit these three major cities emblematic of Spanish culture.

Madrid : Spain's vibrant capital, with its bustling streets and trendy bars, its lively student life, and its dazzling culture. Highlights include Malasaña, the Prado and Thyssen museums, and leisurely strolls through its charming streets.

Seville : a jewel of Andalusia, an authentic and joyful city enlivened by flamenco and its student bars. Highlights include its gastronomy, its incredible palaces, and its vibrant and noisy life interspersed with moments of tranquility.

Granada : the pearl of Andalusia, home to the Alhambra and its numerous Neo-Romanesque and Baroque churches. Highlights include: free tapas with every drink order in certain bars, the city's vibrant atmosphere, and the Albaicin district.

No activities for now… a day to wander.

A first stroll to stretch our legs after the journey. A first stop at Ezequiel's to enjoy a platter of fine Spanish charcuterie and a good glass of wine. Then, we wander through the narrow streets of Malasaña towards the Plaza Mayor. Afterwards, we return to the hotel at a leisurely pace, stopping at Ultramarines for some delicious tapas and a final drink at La Social.

ACCOMMODATION

Hostal Benamar

hotel Accommodation
Hostal Benamar is a charming guesthouse located in a magnificent 19th-century building, at the crossroads of the vibrant Chueca and Malasaña neighborhoods. This guesthouse is distinguished by its warm, family atmosphere, offering bright rooms with simple yet tasteful décor, some of which retain elegant balconies typical of Madrid.

Mopingo's tip: For those with sensitive hearing, bring earplugs because while the hotel is quiet compared to street noise, it's very poorly soundproofed from the inside and you can hear noises from the hallway quite loudly. Excellent value for money and an ideal location for exploring Madrid on foot.

ACTIVITIES

Ezequiel Madrid

local_bar Bar / Cafe

Whether it's to share a platter of local produce at the counter or to enjoy a traditional dish in a warm atmosphere, Ezequiel offers a rustic and tasty experience that will delight lovers of authentic Iberian flavors.

Mopingo's tip: This is the ideal place to bring back a souvenir (they offer vacuum-packed platters of jamon, lomo or chorizo) or to take a very gourmet "tapas" break!

Plaza Mayor de Madrid

interests Other
Plaza Mayor is the historic and majestic heart of Madrid, recognizable by its red brick facades and elegant symmetrical arcades. Once the scene of markets, bullfights, and royal celebrations, it is now the essential meeting place to soak up the vibrant Spanish atmosphere under the watchful gaze of the statue of Philip III.

Mopingo's advice : Don't stop at the restaurants in or around the square, they are tourist traps that can sometimes be very expensive for lower quality food.

ULTRAMARINES DEL COSO | SAN JOAQUÍN

local_bar Bar / Cafe
Ultramarinos San Joaquín, located in the vibrant Malasaña district. The atmosphere is both authentic and trendy, offering an ideal setting for a convivial aperitif featuring high-quality tapas and authentic flavors of the Spanish terroir.

Mopingo's tip: Ideal for a last drink on the terrace before heading back to the hotel.

La Social

local_bar Bar / Cafe
With its vintage and colorful decor, this bar is the perfect meeting place to immerse yourself in the local scene , whether for a long aperitif on the weekend or to feel the friendly energy that animates the evenings of the neighborhood.

Mopingo's tip: Take a good look at the decor; it's vintage, authentic, and very artistic. And be sure to try their house cocktails.

First museum visit: the Thysse-Bornemisza Museum, the Spanish equivalent of the Musée d'Orsay, with its incredible collections. Beforehand, a quick break at Cafeteria El Chico for a typical Pan con Tomate breakfast. Afterwards, a short stop at El Escano to recharge before heading to Retiro Park. We continued our stroll through Madrid, getting lost in the narrow streets, and ended the day at Bodegas Rivas in the heart of Malasaña.

ACTIVITIES

Cafeteria El Chico

interests Other
Just steps from the Thyssen Museum, ideal for a quick breakfast before visiting the museum or for a snack after visiting.

Mopingo's tip : Try the bocadillos de jamon, with tea or coffee, it's a good breakfast.

Musée Thyssen-Bornemisza

museum Museum
The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum is the perfect complement to the Prado, offering an exceptional chronological journey through art from the 13th century to the end of the 20th century. This private collection, one of the most important in the world, fills the gaps in Spain's national museums by showcasing Impressionism , German Expressionism, and Pop Art. It's a place on a human scale where you can admire, in an intimate atmosphere, works by masters as diverse as Van Gogh, Degas, Monet, and Hopper .

Mopingo's tip: Book your tickets in advance for a wider choice of showtimes. Similar to the Musée d'Orsay, it's much less crowded than the Prado Museum and offers an incredible and original collection of works.

El Escaño

interests Other
Small cafe a stone's throw from the Thyssen Museum, ideal for a short break before or after visiting the museum.

Mopingo's tip: Try Pan con Tomate with tea or coffee, it's ideal for a light snack.

Parc du Retiro

park Park
El Retiro Park is Madrid's iconic green lung, a former royal garden and UNESCO World Heritage Site. A veritable open-air museum, it invites leisurely strolls along its majestic avenues, past its spectacular Crystal Palace of glass and steel, and its large basin where you can row a boat at the foot of the monument to Alfonso XII. Whether for a quiet reading break in the shade of centuries-old trees or to admire its sculpted fountains, it's a favorite meeting place for Madrileños to escape the urban bustle.

Bodegas Rivas

restaurant Restaurant
Restaurant/Tapas in the heart of the Malasaña district. Authentic in taste and presentation, the welcome is warm and the service very efficient. The portions are generous and the prices very affordable.

Mopingo's tip : Try the fried artichokes and the anchovies with tomatoes (a delicious little mountain), all washed down with a tinto de verano. The patatas bravas aren't really worth the trip.
